Moving is a great time to start decluttering your life!

When you’re getting ready to move from one house to another, you have a fantastic decluttering opportunity! There’s no better time to make decisions about what you really need and want to keep, than when you’re getting ready to have to box up and carry all those things with you! Asking yourself a few simple questions can really help you sort out the “must keeps” from the “sell its.”

  1. Does the new house have enough space for this…?
  2. When was the last time I used this item? If it’s been more than a year, give selling it some serious consideration. If you can’t remember the last time you used the item, or even what it’s for – probably a sale item…
  3. Can I live without the item? By asking this, we mean more along the lines of “Will I miss this item so much I will probably end up searching for another one, or regretting having discarding it because I’ll never find another like it!” If you love it – keep it!

If you start with a room like the kitchen or a bath, where the items are likely to be less sentimental, you’ll have a real feel for what you’re doing by the time you get to the trickier rooms, like your bedroom, the kids bedrooms or the classic “treasure trove of memories” in storage.
